The Esterházy Inn welcomes beginners and experienced adventurers alike to explore the forest all year round with its varied, playful, on-site and educational programmes. We also organise larger family and corporate events and weddings in our function room, while our restaurant welcomes hungry guests with its home-style Swabian cuisine and polite service. For all those who can't get enough of the beauty of the Vértes Mountains and would like to continue enjoying our hospitality, we also offer accommodation in our 52-bed tourist lodge!
In the Vértes Landscape Protection Area, on the route of the National Blue Trail, we are waiting for our visitors in a forest environment. Our centre can be reached by car from both the M1 and M7 motorways in 30 minutes, but can also be reached by bicycle, on horseback and of course on foot on signposted roads. Spend a pleasant day or even a whole weekend with us, get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The ecotourism centre, inaugurated in the summer of 2021, represents a complex ecotourism infrastructure in terms of services, information network and interpretation. Two different sources of funding have supported the execution of the plans:
The objective of the EU Call for Proposals TOP-1.2.1-16 „Socially and environmentally sustainable tourism development” was to support regional-level tourism product packages and small-scale thematic tourism developments, which would allow for the coordinated development of county-level tourism attractions. The lower level of the building of the eco-tourism centre in Kőhányás was achieved by this funding, - covering an area of 494 m².
The upper floor of the building, which also covers 494 m² and houses the tourist hotel, was built under the Téry Ödön National Tourist House Development Programme.
The ecotourism centre is named after the owner of the former estate, Count Móric Esterházy. Count Móric Esterházy, a great landowner and prime minister, made a significant contribution to the history of tourism in the Vértes. He set a national example by being the first landowner to open his manor to tourists in the 1930s. The ecotourism centre also presents the past and ethnographic values of the former Swabian settlement.
The building is divided into three units: an ecotourism reception centre, a restaurant and tourist accommodation.
The constructed building's ecotourism reception centre was given space to:
Permanent and temporary exhibitions present the natural and built heritage of the Vértes.
The Green Shop is a „take home experience” for visitors. It offers a range of products from local producers, reflecting the characteristics and flavours of the region.
A retail outlet for books and magazines focusing on nature conservation.
Restaurant with Swabian gastronomy:
In addition to the traditional offer, which revives the old flavours, we also take into account the dietary specialities (sensitivities) of our guests. Gastronomy is part of our spiritual and cultural heritage. The restaurant's operation is inextricably linked to the tourist concept of presenting the flavours of the Vértes as a cardinal element of the programme for visitors, and incorporating the taste composition of the culture of the Swabian community living on the former Esterházy estate into the gastronomic offer. It focuses on a healthy lifestyle, of which healthy eating is an integral part.
The wine cellar is a representative room, which is also used for smaller meetings in addition to hosting guests. Exclusive presentation of local wines, wine tastings and small receptions. The Wine Cellar is the starting point for wine tours to Orondpuszta Cellars, cellars of Mór and other wine tourism attractions. The villages of the wine region of Mór are Csákberény, Csókakő, Mór, Pusztavám, Söréd and Zámoly. These villages can also be reached from Kőhányás through the forest. The wine tourism potential of the Vértes region is growing year by year and is becoming a quality service as the wine-consuming public is becoming a savvy audience.
Tourist accommodation
The tourist accommodation is reasonably priced and offers high quality facilities.
The Green Route
On the Green Route walking trail, planned as part of the Esterházy Ecotourism Centre, the most important tree species typical of the Vértes landscape are presented. A board next to each tree indicates, in addition to the Hungarian and Latin names of the tree, its morphological characteristics and the forest community in which it occurs. The size of the tree at maturity, the use of the wood and other characteristics of the tree that differ from the average are also indicated. In this way, those looking for recreation on the trail can also learn about the species that make up the Vértes forest. Other panels describe the forest management history of the area, going back to the Esterházy estate system. The trail is also suitable for wheelchair and pushchair users.
Wetland presentation
The creation of wetlands will be achieved through the rehabilitation of the quarry pond. The tasks of pond rehabilitation are: artificial water recharge in sufficient quantities, ensuring natural water level fluctuations, repeated „natural” disturbance will reverse the succession process, ensuring the relative stability of the mosaic structure. The restoration of the lake is of ecological, conservation, social and tourism importance. High diversity: rich in plant life and micro-organisms, supporting a wide range of plant and animal species, a feeding and breeding ground, a stopover for migratory birds. Biodiversity conservation is a key objective, linked to the Habitats and Birds Directives. The protected frog population is particularly outstanding. Benches, tables and information boards will be placed along the water's edge.
