Vajda János Forestry School - Pusztavám

The school is named after János Vajda, the 19th century poet who spent his childhood in the Váli Valley. We wanted the children who come to us to have the same experiences and absorb the same professional knowledge through real play as the poet did during his adventures in the woods.

Our forestry school provides an opportunity to introduce sustainable forest management, wildlife management and the forest community. The aim of forestry is to introduce today's young people to the professional knowledge and to show that the forest is a treasure in itself. Learning about it, the mystery of the wildlife that surrounds them and the many walks in the forest will give them unforgettable moments that will often accompany them throughout their lives. Not to mention the fact that in today's fast-paced world, the role of forest schools is also to take a breath and see how much wonder is all around us, if we just pause for a moment to rest among the trees.

“There is no sweeter spiritual pleasure,

Like observing nature,

Learn philosophy from him:

The world is ours until we forget!”

(János Vajda)

Our forest school opened in 2015 and has been welcoming students and teachers ever since. Children who come to us spend most of their time learning about the forest through their own experiences and hand-on activities in the forest. As a forest school, we consider it important to broaden children's knowledge of forestry through practical programmes that build on and complement the school curriculum. Our activities are aimed at exploring and learning about nature using age-appropriate methods and tools. To develop a complex vision that will enable children to preserve nature as a treasure, since we have borrowed the Earth from our grandchildren.

For our groups, we provide a qualified forest educator for our theme-based sessions and forest school programmes. Signposted hiking trails and nature trails allow them to get to know the area.

Other activities include class trips, summer camps and guided walks in the woods.

At our forest school, accommodation can also be booked, depending on availability.

The school was named after János Vajda, a 19th-century poet who spent his childhood in the Vál Valley. The family moved to the village because the father became the chief estate forester on the Vál estate, so János Vajda grew up in an idyllic forest environment and received a professional upbringing. Their house at the time still stands and can be viewed as the "Vajda House" about 3 km from the village of Vál. The locals deeply care for the fate of the house and its surroundings, cherishing and preserving its period furniture and manuscripts. János Vajda also wrote a professional book under a pseudonym, titled "Master of the Hunt" by Ákos Cserszilvásy. The forest, the Vál region, and the love of nature played a significant role in his poetry.
